I was at the UK Therapeutic Jurisprudence & Health conference in Manchester, giving a paper on ‘healthcare mediation and therapeutic justice’ last week.

My talk explored:
– The ethical challenges of asking families to give consent to life-ending decisions
– How mediation can create space for truth-telling, emotional clarity, legal input and acknowledgement of power imbalances.
– A vision of therapeutic justice in medical disputes: early transparency, supported decision-making, and meaningful end-of-life planning.

The many wonderful presentations and discussions, with international visitors from Australia to the US, gave me so much food for thought and learning. Thanks to Amber Turner BSc (Hons) LLM – The Holistic Lawyer- Amber Law Global, Professor Nicola Glover-Thomas, Dr John Stallard, Amanda Harmon Cooley, Caroline Redhead, Suzanne Farg, Nigel Stobbs, Soo Downe, Anna Grace Kawalek, The University of Manchester and everyone else in attendance. The TJ crowd are a warm and welcoming bunch!

Thanks especially to Dr Jaime Lindsey for helping me develop my talk and speak to an academic audience.
